PGS Equipment was founded in 2021 by the merger of Growers Supply and Prairie Side Equipment. Both Taber-based companies have been active players in the row-crop business. PGS focuses on the sale and service of agricultural machinery from seeding to storage and from harvesting to packaging. In all of this, quality comes first, which is reflected in the product range, with brands such as Grimme, Spudnik, Valmar, Milestone, Bijlsma Hercules, VHM, SureFire, and Mooij.

Our clients are located in Western Canada and beyond, while our suppliers are coming from, Canada, the USA as well as different European countries.

Job duties:

Within this position you will perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Independently perform diagnostics, repairs, and scheduled maintenance work involving all types of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, drivetrain, and engine repairs on internal or customer-owned equipment.
  • Read and interpret parts diagnostics and diagrams
  • Assemble and perform pre-delivery inspections of new equipment
  • Account for all time and material used in performing assigned duties
  • Use computerized inventory system and parts libraries
  • Ensuring all paperwork as required relating to service or warranty repairs is filled out promptly and correctly and submitted to accounting.

Job requirements:

  • Positive communication skills towards customers, suppliers, and team members
  • The ability to read electrical (AC/DC) and hydraulic schematic drawings
  • The ability to help customers and guide them through repairs remotely over telephone and computer from our office.
  • The ability to identify and determine parts required and then arrange to get them in the most efficient and timely method.
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office and Google Suite programs
  • Knowledge and experience within specialty crop equipment is an asset
  • Must be able to lift 45 kg
  • Must be able to work in shifts in spring(planting) and fall (harvest) season
  • Friendly, self-starter who works well within a team
  • Basic mechanical skills and experience is an asset

PGS Equipment Ltd. is currently looking to hire a Millwright technician for our facility in Taber, AB as well as farms in Alberta and Saskatchewan. We supply row crop farmers with the equipment and systems to plant, feed, protect, harvest, store and process crops like potatoes, carrots, onions, beans, garlic, and other specialty crops. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assembly of equipment in shop and field
  • Troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, and routine maintenance of various farm machinery and equipment, including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Installation and retrofitting of complex production equipment; fabricating and welding as required.
  • Use a lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to match the appropriate specifications.
  • Align machines and equipment during installation, using hoists, jacks and other tools
  • Perform work in a safe manner by themselves and with others
  • Assist with other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Must be dependable and self-motivated team player with the ability to communicate effectively, negotiate and conflict resolution.
  • Parts and machinery knowledge, preferably row crop equipment
  • Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • You are comfortable working at heights, dusty environments, heat/cold, indoors/outdoors, and confined spaces
  • Effective attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
